I ran into an issue while trying to use Remote Desktop Connection into a Windows 7 Professional machine. RDP was setup properly on the host machine and all firewalls were disabled. Remote Deskto was setup to Alllow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop. Even with everything configured correctly I was unable to remotely connnect to the computer. After additional research I was able to determine that the RDP port in the registry settings had been changed sometime in the past.
To set the RDP port used for Remote Desktop Connections:
NOTE: The default port used for RDP is port 3389
- Start Registry Editor.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
- On the Edit menu, click Modify, and then click Decimal.
- Type the new port number, and then click OK.
- Quit Registry Editor.
- Restart the computer.
