Remove Footer Information in Atahualpa Theme – WordPress

I use the Atahualpa theme on several WordPress sites. On a couple of occasions I have been asked to modify the default Atahualpa footer so it only displays the copyright information. Here are the steps to remove the “Powered by WordPress -Atahualpa Theme by BytesFor All” out of the footer.

  • In WordPress Admin Click on Editor under Appearance.
  • In the Edit Themes Page select “Theme Functions”(functions.php) on the right side of the screen.
  • A little less than a quarter of the way down the functions.php code you will find:

function footer_output($footer_content) {
$footer_content .= ‘<br />Powered by <a href=”http://wordpress.org/”>WordPress</a> &amp; the <a href=”http://wordpress.bytesforall.com/” title=”Customizable WordPress themes”>Atahualpa Theme</a> by <a href=”http://www.bytesforall.com/” title=”BFA Webdesign”>BytesForAll</a>. Discuss on our <a href=”http://forum.bytesforall.com/” title=”Atahualpa &amp; WordPress”>WP Forum</a>';
return $footer_content
;

}

  • Change that entire section with:

function footer_output($footer_content) { return $footer_content;

}

  • Click Update File

Here are a couple of examples of the footer showing only the copyright information;

    but how would you selectively remove one element at a time. For example if I don’t want the tags displayed but I want them specified for SEO.

    Hi there,

    In my attempt to follow your above instructions, I accidently misplaced a “{” bracket and am now shut out of my site. I am getting this response: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘}’ in /home/kimberagill/kimberlygill.com/wp-content/themes/atahualpa/functions.php on line 97

    I am a bit new to this, could you tell me if this is a major issue or if it could be easily repaired?

    Thank you much in advance.

      It is an easy fix if you have FTP access to your site. You will need to FTP to your site and manually edit the functions.php file.

      Let me know if you have questions.

    Hi!

    I do have FTP access and I am in there right now. I have located the file and saved it to my desktop in order to edit it in Text Editor. However, I’m not sure where in the file I need to fix the problem and what exactly to do. I appreciate your quick response!

    • August 29, 2010 at 9:37 pm

      Sorry for the delay, I just noticed your response. In my functions.php the change I made to remove the footer is on line 283. This is what it looks like starting at line 283:

      function footer_output($footer_content) {

      $footer_content .= ' | Site Designed by Ballyhoo4U';

      return $footer_content;

      }

      I hope I understand you correctly and this helps. If not, I can get you my email and if you choose, I can look at your functions.php file.

    Thanks so much. I’m happy to give Bytes credit for the theme – I just don’t like the links in the footer!

    Does the Author allow the remove?

    • November 8, 2010 at 3:00 pm

      I can’t speak for the author but I do believe they allow it. It would be a good gesture to give them a donation as a way of thanking them for their hard work on the theme.

    Thanks Brethren.
    I try to use this theme!

  19. December 13, 2010 at 6:29 pm

    Thanks for the tip. Definitely donate to Bytesforall. They gave an excellent theme to the public for free.

    Considering the fact that the creators of this theme are keeping this information for the gold forum, I can say that you saved each and every of us at least 20$. That is how much you must donate to get into the gold forum.
    You definitely “bought” me to come back often :)

    • December 15, 2010 at 8:51 pm

      You’re right this information is on their gold forum and I have paid Byteforall much more than $20 for various levels of support and access to their forum. I am a fan of the Atahualpa theme and have used it on several sites. My thought is the more I post about it, the more people will use the theme and donate to Bytesforall.

    Thanks this worked for me.

  22. February 6, 2011 at 11:01 am

    Hi, thanks for this post it was pretty helpful but I was wondering if I would be able to insert a big footer to the Atahualpa theme, similar to this post
    http://www.themelab.com/2009/04/25/add-a-widgetized-footer-to-your-wordpress-theme/

    I’d like to put in some small thumbs of books we’re reading, album covers and some links.

    Do you have any tutorials for this or might be able to point me in the direction.

    Many thanks.

    Thank you….great information…saved me hours!

    You rock! One more question, do you know how to remove the search box in the header?

    Cheers.

    • February 22, 2011 at 3:17 pm

      To remove the search box in the header, go to Atahualpa Theme Options, Click on Style & edit HEADER AREA. About 3/4 of the way down you should see “Show search box?” Select No. Save.

  28. March 13, 2012 at 3:44 pm

    Thanks man!
    PS. Why You dont use it on your own WP ?

    • March 13, 2012 at 3:58 pm

      Good catch, I don’t use it on this blog primarily because I have been too lazy to set it up. I use the Atahualpa on other WP sites I manage and it works great.

    Howdy, can anybody suggest a way to stop this webpage from rendering a javascript error in Internet explorer? Thanks

  30. April 12, 2013 at 11:57 am

    Great… It’s Working.. Wow… Thanks for shearing..

  31. May 6, 2013 at 5:03 am

    Why do people want to remove footer information from the theme? I guess that footer info was put there on purpose. What is it detrimental for leaving it just as is? Thanks

  32. May 17, 2013 at 4:06 am

    If ever I could successfully remove it is there any chance that I can put it back if ever I want it?
